About

Knuckles is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He is an echidna. After appearing as an antagonist to Sonic and Tails in 1994’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Knuckles eventually became a recurring character in the Sonic franchise and has been the subject of several memes, including the & Knuckles series and Knuckles Sings.

Origin

Knuckles made his first appearance in 1994’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3[1] as an antagonist to Sonic and Tails, as he was tricked by the villainous Dr. Robotnik into thinking the characters were thieves. He became a playable character in Sonic & Knuckles, which was released later that year.

Spread

Knuckles has been a part of the Sonic franchise ever since, playing a larger and supporting role as Sonic’s rival and friend. He has appeared in over two dozen Sonic games in the past twenty three years, and has made appearances in various Sonic animated series as well, debuting in episode 5 of Sonic X (shown below). He is also a major character in the Sonic Boom computer-animated series.

Knuckles has been generally well received by fans and critics alike, though some critics pointed out that the addition of Knuckles marked when they felt the Sonic franchise began to go “overboard” with additional characters.[2]

Knuckles Glitches

In later Sonic games Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom , glitches involving Knuckles were popular and sometimes exploited by gamers and Let’s Players. Game Grumps , a Let’s Play channel which often plays Sonic games, have several notable examples of Knuckles glitches. While playing Sonic 06, Knuckles gets stuck to a wall, creating a memorable moment where Arin gets extremely angry at the game (shown below, left). The episode has gained over 3.2 million views and has several fan animations.[3] In Sonic Boom, the pair discovered a glitch with Knuckles where when can jump infinitely if one pauses during Knuckles’ jump animation, leading them to go to unfinished parts of the game (shown below, right).

Related Memes

& Knuckles

& Knuckles is a phrase originating when Steam released a bundle of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, as was the developers’ original intent, naming it Sonic Adventure 3 & Knuckles. The clunky title made it appear as though Knuckles was shoehorned into the original game. This led to jokes in which people mock special crossovers or editions of games, similar to Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry Series.

Knuckles Sings

Knuckles Sings refers to a series of animated videos in which a goofily animated drawing of Knuckles sings various songs. On February 20th, 2017, YouTube animator Gregzilla uploaded a video in which he reviewed Sonic Lost World (shown below, left). Early in the video, a goofily drawn Knuckles appears for a second. Two weeks later, he uploaded a video in which he has the character “sing” a part of “I Don’t Want to Set The World On Fire” by The Ink Spots, gaining over 1.7 million views (shown below, right).

Over the following months, several other Knuckles Sings variations appeared on YouTube, with most of the popular versions created by YouTubers FrameRater and Sonic Plush. Popular edits created by other YouTubers find Knuckles singing “Suicide is Painless,” created by Fanzy Kittenz and gaining over 390,000 views (shown below, left), and a version where Knuckles sings “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire, uploaded by Fainter Streak and gaining over 117,000 views (shown below, right).

Piptaz memes have become popularised amongst doctors and other healthcare professionals in recent months, with the only obvious source for piptaz memes being popularised by the facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/piptazmemes/). The earliest memes posted date back to June 2017. Piperacillin/Tazobactam is a broad spectrum pair of antibiotic commonly used for the treatment of infections for which the source is uncertain (although is also recommended for treatment of urinary sepsis in some hospital trusts). The pair of antibiotics are regarded amongst most doctors and surgeons as being the best antimicrobial therapy. Not only does it have a fantastic broad spectrum of activity (ie. ability to treat bacterial infections of all kinds), it is highly efficacious. It is also famously overused amongst lazier doctors who use the antibiotic in patients that could otherwise have their primary source of infection sought, and treated with more appropriate antibiotics.

About

Paramount Pictures (also known simply as Paramount) is an American film studio based in Hollywood, California, that has been a subsidiary of the American media conglomerate Viacom since 1912.

History

Paramount is the fifth oldest surviving film studio in the world after the French studios Gaumont Film Company (1895) and Pathé (1896), followed by the Nordisk Film company (1906), and Universal Studios (1912). It is the last major film studio still headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles.

Paramount Pictures dates its existence from the 1912 founding date of the Famous Players Film Company. Hungarian-born founder, Adolph Zukor, who had been an early investor in nickelodeons, saw that movies appealed mainly to working-class immigrants. With partners Daniel Frohman and Charles Frohman he planned to offer feature-length films that would appeal to the middle class by featuring the leading theatrical players of the time (leading to the slogan “Famous Players in Famous Plays”). By mid-1913, Famous Players had completed five films, and Zukor was on his way to success. Its first film was Les Amours de la reine Élisabeth, which starred Sarah Bernhardt.

That same year, another aspiring producer, Jesse L. Lasky, opened his Lasky Feature Play Company with money borrowed from his brother-in-law, Samuel Goldfish, later known as Samuel Goldwyn. The Lasky company hired as their first employee a stage director with virtually no film experience, Cecil B. DeMille, who would find a suitable site in Hollywood, near Los Angeles, for his first feature film, The Squaw Man.

Paramount Pictures’ first logo, based on a design by its founder William Wadsworth Hodkinson, used from 1917 to 1967.
Starting in 1914, both Lasky and Famous Players released their films through a start-up company, Paramount Pictures Corporation, organized early that year by a Utah theatre owner, W. W. Hodkinson, who had bought and merged several smaller firms. Hodkinson and actor, director, producer Hobart Bosworth had started production of a series of Jack London movies. Paramount was the first successful nationwide distributor; until this time, films were sold on a statewide or regional basis which had proved costly to film producers. Also, Famous Players and Lasky were privately owned while Paramount was a corporation.

About

Warn Markiplier refers to a series of sarcastic text posts on Tumblr attempting to alert popular YouTubeLet’s PlayerMarkiplier of imminent danger. They are made in mockery of a sincere text post warning Markiplier of gang violence in Los Angeles and had been an inside joke in the Markiplier Tumblr fandom before becoming a more widespread meme in the summer of 2017.

Origin

On July 28th, 2015, Tumblr user @watermelonjeager,[1] since deactivated, posted:

“There is a gang war in LA. The first gang to get to 100 kills, gets to take over that part of the city. You NEED to be careful, Mark. You could be at high risk because of your high status. PLEASE be safe, everyone in or around LA, and please reblog this to get it to the youtubers in LA.
I just worry about their safety.
markiplier stay safe! <3”

The post gained over 15,000 notes.

Spread

The meme did not begin spreading through Tumblr until two years later. Meme Documentation traces the moment “Warn Markiplier” became a meme to a reblog of the original post by Tumblr user fakelaurent[2] which added a picture of two people boxing, with the winning person labeled “Los Angeles Gangs” and the losing person labeled “Markiplier” (shown below).

This iteration features a reblog from since deleted Tumblr kairokurusakuraaono which refers to Markiplier as “markimoo,” which would be referenced in future jokes. For example, on October 5th, 2015, user themysteriousmurasamecastle[3] posted a joke post that announced Markiplier’s death via gang violence, ending with “You be missed, Markipoo” (shown below). Coincidentally, Markiplier started a YouTube series called “Who Killed Markiplier?” five days later.[4]

The majority of the jokes are text-based and remain relatively contained within the Markiplier fandom. One exception features a riff on the joke crossed with Darth Plagueis the Wise which gained over 24,000 notes (shown below). Meme Documentation[5] covered the spread of the jokes on October 22nd, 2017.

Cause when it gets through I need a ride
