Andrew Cuomo’s “As a New Yorker…” Quote refers to jokes made about New York State governor Andrew Cuomo attempting to state that he represented the diverse population of Nwe York by saying, “As a New Yorker, I am a Muslim. I am a Jew. I am Black. I am gay. I am a woman seeking to control her body. We are one New York.” Though the quote was stated in 2017, jokes about it appeared over a year, starting April 19th, 2018, after it appeared in a popular tweet parodying the statement. Some users assumed the quote was recent and was said as a result of Cynthia Nixon’s Gubernatorial Campaign, which challenges Cuomo from the political left.
