About

Giga Nigga is the moniker given to a peculiar photograph of famous bobybuilder Paul Dillett showing up his muscles with a grin on his face. Beyond the obvious racist connotation, parodies emerged on 4chan transforming him into a fierce online forum game boss that users have to defeat by successfully triggering what is commonly known as a quads get, which means having the last four digits of a post number being the same.

Origin

The photograph itself was widely shared online among bodybuilding enthiusiasts (shown below). An early example from October 31st 2007 can be found in a forum thread on the Bodybuilding Dungeon website[1].

While it has not been archived, the Giga Nigga nickname is rumored to have originated on imageboard 4chan. Its earliest online mention originated from the website blol.me[2] in which user Stefanus commented GIGANIGGA IS LOOSE!” on a repost of the photograph, dated July 14th 2011. It shows that the meme had existed prior. In addition, its earliest depiction as a game can be found on Funnyjunk, in a screenshot[3] from August 8th 2011 by user Gardevoir showing an edited version of the photograph being supposedly “defeated” by another user rolling 3,333 (shown below).

Spread

On Funnyjunk alone, several references to the game, either on the site itself or on 4chan, were posted between 2011 and 2012[4][5]. Around December 2011, a macro titled “Gigga (sic) Nigga” was submitted to the troll.me website[6], accumulating to 12 pages of parodies as of March 2015. On January 6th, 2012, the macro, titled “Giga Nigga” this time[7], was submitted to Meme Generator. There, it ranked #3,973 on the site and accumulated over 900 parodies as of March 2015.

Piero Scaruffi Beatles Copypasta

About

The Piero Scaruffi Beatles Copypasta is a copypasta taken from an analysis about The Beatles by music critic Piero Scaruffi. The quotation has gained infamy for its critical attitude toward the band, as well as its perceived air of pretentiousness.

Origin

Beatles, a retrospective article on rock group The Beatles, was published on Piero Scaruffi’s website in 1999.[1] In the article, Scaruffi makes the claim that The Beatles are overrated by many other critics due to their fame. The copypasta, which was translated to English from its original Italian, is taken from its first paragraph, reproduced below.

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as “the greatest or most significant or most influential” rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

Spread

The copypasta was first posted onto 4chan’s music board (/mu/) on June 23rd, 2012, in a thread about The Beatles.[2] A video of Tyrone reading the copypasta was uploaded to YouTube in January 2014.

“Prepare to be Crackerized”– joe_cracker

About

The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage is a The Legend of Zelda-inspiredfanfiction created by IGN board user Robert C. McGee, aka “joe_cracker”, who was convinced that his Zelda fanfiction was destined to become an animated movie based on Nintendo’s “Legend of Zelda” series. The videos, created by Sexualburgerking, Cellius, Orquiox, parody the story and its creator through use of literal interpretations of the script, purposefully done animation errors, and other visual gags. The main draw of the series has been its “so-bad-it’s-funny” sense of humor.

The entire script can be read here[1]

History

In 2003, McGee began posting threads on IGN’s message boards detailing his script and story for “The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage”.[2]

McGee attempted to get the rights to The Legend of Zelda through petitiononline.com and even handed out flyers in his home town in an attempt to garner attention for his project. IGN Board user TheSpotlight eventually agreed to help McGee with his script, but eventually, in summer 2004, he left the boards out of frustration, as Joe reportedly had been ordering TheSpotlight around like an employee and was trying to get him to do all the major writing for him.

In late 2004, IGN Board user *Cellius_*18 joked that McGee’s script had been stolen by a big name producer and was being made into a feature film. McGee believed the message to be genuine and attempted to give the producer, which he named “The Cheese” or “Cheese Head” (To contrast his name, cracker, as in “Cheese” and “Cracker”), a cease and desist, which failed, seeing as how said producer did not exist.

Board users Sexualburgerking (Who at the time was pretending to be John Grusd, the director of the 80’s Zelda cartoons), Cellius, and Orquiox convinced McGee that the only way to stop the movie from being produced was to make the movie themselves. The three then created a “test animation”, claiming it to be a WIP video by film and TV production company DiC entertainment, which had previously worked on adaptations of “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Madeline”. The short was made to be intentionally bad so as to convince Robert McGee once and for all that his grand plans for a Zelda movie were in vain. The video was posted on YouTube in 2006. (shown below)

However, McGee was still convinced that the test animation was legitimate. SBK, Cellius, and Orquiox then produced a second short in 2006 to further shake sense into him.

By the production of the third video in late 2006, “joe_cracker” finally realized that the entire thing had been a joke. An updated version of the third short was released in 2008 with annotations explaining the inside jokes and backstory that had led up to this point.

Later in 2008 a teaser for “The Light of Couage 4” was released.

By then, however, the project had been abandoned with all involved feeling the joke had gone on long enough.

several short joke animations called “Bitcrushers” featuring the LOC characters were also created during that time.

Reception

The Light of Courage series developed its own cult fanbase with several fansites such as http://www.lightofcracker.com/ and dancingtriforce.com, both of which are now defunct. A collection of content from the Dancing Triforce website can be downloaded here: http://herbalcell.com/static/tloc/misc-tloc-and-cracker-media.zip[9]

joe_cracker’s film group 963 Productions has their own message board which is not very active anymore[3]

963 Productions has a Youtube page that is still up and running[4]

Fan Projects

The Light of Courage has been used in several YouTube Poops and other parody videos.

Burger King

About

Burger King is a global hamburger fast food restaurant chain headquartered in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is currently owned by “3G Capital” of Brazil, whom bought ownership to the franchise in 2010.[1] The franchise slogan currently reads, “Have it your way!”

History

In 1953, Keith J. Kramer and Matthew Burns opened a Jacksonville, Florida-based restaurant chain named “Insta-Burger King.” In 1954, financial problems forced Kramer and Burns to hand the franchise over to David Edgerton and James McLamore. The two later renamed the restaurant chain to simply “Burger King” after the company once again faltered in 1959, and the franchise became an independent entity for 8 years until ownership was sold to the Pillsbury Company in 1967. Over the next 22 years, poor operation and ineffective leadership caused the restaurant chain to decline, which eventually forced Pillsbury to sell ownership to the company “Grand Metropolitan” in 1989. The company became an independent entity again in the early 2000’s when “TPG Capital” bought ownership for $1.5 billion US dollars. At the end of the fiscal year in 2013, Burger King was the second largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants in terms of global locations, behind industry bellwether McDonald’s (32,400 locations). It is also the fourth largest restaurant chain overall to “Yum! Brands”, parent of KFC, “Taco Bell”, and “Pizza Hut”, McDonald’s, and Subway.[8]

Impact

In 1971, Burger King had spread beyond the United States by this time and attempted to open a brand in Australia. However, the name was already trademarked by a takeaway food shop in Adelaide. Burger King then presented Australian franchisee Jack Cowin with alternative names derived from pre-existing trademarks that had already belonged to Burger King and Pillsbury at the time. Cowin ultimately decided on the derivative of Pillsbury’s “Hungry Jack”, naming the new Burger King brand “Hungry Jack’s”, which is currently the only Burger King brand in Australia.

History

The show’s pilot episode “LowBrow” was shown in 2002 during Cartoon Network’s Cartoon Cartoon Weekend Summerfest. Due to it’s high ratings by the viewers the show was aired in Toonami on May 1st, 2005. The show lasted two seasons before being cancelled on January 15, 2005.

Reception

The show had done wonderfully during it’s time on the air. It was so popular that it had the number 4th spot on Toonzone’s “Toons of the 2000s: Top 5 Original Cartoons”, but sadly the show’s ratings had started to decline and was cancelled. It lasted for about a total of 26 episodes, but the show had left a remarkable effect on it’s fans and petitions are being signed to get the show back on the television screens.

About

Fortune is a 4chan feature that generates random messages in the manner of fortune cookies’ predictions. Since its introduction on the /b/ (random) board, it became a subject of curiosity and intense spam on the site to the point that it has been made an exclusive addition to the /s4s/ (shit 4chan says) board.

Origin

According to “The Complete history of 4chan”, a collective effort in listing numerous events related to the imageboard, Christopher “Moot” Pool enabled the Fortune feature on April 27th 2007 by adding a name field on the otherwise anonymous /b/ board. Typing #fortune into it would trigger a random colored message resembling a fortune cookie’s prediction above the user’s own message. The list also states that one of the first threads involving people trying to guess their own fortune was stickied and became one of the most replied-to thread in the history of the board. There is sadly no available archive from that time. However, one of the earliest mentions of that new feature was found on a video by Youtuber iliekmudkip explaining how to use it on the site, posted July 10th 2007 (shown below).

Spread

On September 21th 2007, an anonymous poster on the /prog/ (programming) board ranted about the perceived overuse of the meme on the /b/ board[2], revealing that the fortune feature may have been a reference to the four-leaf clover symbol of the site. Encyclopedia Dramatica gives details about a short-lasting sub-meme using the feature that began on October 3rd 2007 and consisted in users tricking the system into having a constant streak of the same “Godly Luck” message[3]. The feature was eventually disabled following an event known as the “Great Caturday Nap” that occured on October 19th 2007, in which the 4chan website suffered DDoS attacks and was taken down by a group of people calling themselves Lulznet. The Encyclopedia Dramatica page for Fortune states that, following the incident, the feature was disabled and enabled several times, showing a screenshot of it being enabled again in 2008[4].
On September 10th 2013, Fortune became the exclusive feature of the /s4s/ board, available nowhere else but there. A screenshot of the first post with it launched by Moot himself was taken at that time (shown below).
