Origin
Starting Wednesday, November 4, 2015, a video from 1998 flooded news headlines, including MSNBC, CBS, CNN, Washington Post, and more. In the Andrew’s University commencement speech, Dr. Ben Carson, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate stated that his personal belief is that the Egyptian pyramids were granaries built by the biblical Joseph. In the speech, he proclaimed
“My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids in order to store grain. Now all the archaeologists think that they were made for the pharaoh’s graves, but you know it’d have to be something awfully big, if you stop and think about it, and I don’t think it would just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain, and when you look at the way the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they would have to be that way for a reason. And, you know, various scientists have said ‘well, you know, there were alien beings that came down; they had special knowledge,’ and that’s how they were – you know, doesn’t require an alien being when God is with you.”
When challenged about that belief after the video began spreading, Carson stood by these statements, repeating his previous arguments. After being criticized over the previous months for his creationist and biblical literalist beliefs, this statement has sparked many parody theories about where the ancient wonders came from.
