Sonic Dreams Collection

About

Sonic Dreams Collection is an unlicensed Sonic The Hedgehog video game developed by indie studio Arcane Kids. The collection features 4 games where the player must complete various tasks. The collection’s unusual and fetish-like gameplay has since spawn an online following with video game let’s players posting videos of their experience with the game.

Gameplay

The collection comes with 4 playable game modes to play.

Make My Sonic

In this mode, players are given a default sonic model for them to alter its size and body color. The character can then be named using a random name generator and saved to be used on the other game modes (note that only the character’s color and name is saved),

Eggman Origin

In order to play this mode, players must first go to the extra data files folder, then to Unsafe Files, and finally the Corrupted Files folder in the games directory and start up the seganet.exe application. From there, players must login by typing in “mjstudio” as the username and “wh1t3Glove” for the password. After the program finished downloading, the game mode becomes available to play. Also note that in order to play, players must first create a character on the Make My Sonic game mode before proceeding to Eggman Origins.

In this mode, players assume the role of their created sonic character that has been deformed with only its head and 2 long legs. The player must search through a white empty environment to look for worms to be fed to a limbless Eggman located at the center of the field. Each time Eggman is fed, he will grow bigger in size. The game ends after Eggman becomes big enough to devour the player which causes Sonic to reach “Ascension”.

Sonic Movie Maker

In this mode, players are given the role to make a 6 second video using the available interactive props, characters and environment. While the early levels seem innocent enough, the mode soon devolves into fetish themed environments and settings such as vore, birthing, and male pregnancy.

My Roommate Sonic

This mode puts you in the role of a roommate watching television with Sonic. The goal of the game is to follow Eggman’s advice through your cellphone and show your romantic interest to Sonic. This game mode can be played with the Oculus Rift support.

History

Sonic Dreams Collection was released on August 10th, 2015, by indie studio Arcane Kids via a Tumblr page titled Hedgehog Exposed for free on the PC and Mac.^[1] The page explains that the team “discovered” four playable prototypes of the collection inside a Sega Dreamcast developer kit they bought from ebay. If a password is required, you need to type in the word “grandpa” to gain access.

Online Presence

The game’s release was covered by a number of gaming news sites such as Kotaku,^[2] PC Gamer,^[3] Polygon,^[4] and Metro.^[5]

The game has been the subject of discussion on a number of sites such as 4chan,^[6]^[10] Reddit,^[7] Neogaf,^[8] and Tumblr.^[9]
On August 11th, 2015, Youtube let’s play group Game Grumps uploaded a Steam Train episode where they play Sonic Dreams Collection (shown below, left). The video gathered over 538.000 views in 2 days. On August 12th, Youtuber Markiplier uploaded the first video of his play through for Sonic Dreams Collection (shown below, right). The video gathered over 585.000 views in a day.
