About
Vorarephilia ("vore:) is a paraphilia, characterized by the erotic desire to consume or be consumed by another person or creature [1] or to spectate another person or creature be eaten. The character being eaten is commonly referred to as the “Prey” while the character doing the eating is often referred to as the “Predator” (often shortened to pred). Traditionally vore is depicted as an oral act, however variations involving other orifices exist.
History
Stories of characters being eaten alive have existed long throughout history such as the biblical story of Jonah and The Whale and Cronus of Greek Mythology devouring his children [2]. In 1997 the now defunct Vor-Com, a furry oriented website that focused on soft-vore, was created as one of the earliest websites dedicated to vore [3].
Major Categories
Soft
In soft vore the prey is consumed alive and whole. After being consumed the prey may be released, held for a time, or be digested. The prey may or may not be revived after digestion and in either case graphic scenes of digestion are either skipped or made painless. As such this is the most common form of vore depicted due to not portraying the end result as being something possibly deadly.
Hard
Hard-vore is typically less common than soft-vore. In Hard-vore physical injury to the prey occurs, whether by chewing and/or tearing of flesh and bone or by violent digestion in the stomach’s acids. Because of this, connections towards guro fetishism are inevitable when dealing with hard vore artwork, so some artists avoid hard vore entirely due to not wishing to be classified as “guro artists” as well.

Oral
Same-Size
In same-size vore the predator and prey are are roughly the same size. Artwork depicting
same-size vore often shows the predator’s gut being stretched to unnatural extremes, similar to Body Inflation. As such there is occasional overlap with inflation fetishism with some vore artists, who will do a mixture of both fetishes seen across their online art galleries.
Macro
Macro vore combines macrophilia and vore by featuring a predator much larger than the prey, often large enough for the prey to be bite sized. A very common type of vore art, especially among artists who do not wish to do artwork displaying the predator’s midsection becoming very distended.
Non-Oral (NSFW artwork)
Cock
A method of vore which involves the prey being taken into the predator by means of the penis. While the predator in these situations is typically male, occasionally some artists will depict this method of vore using futanari characters (girls with male genitals). Quite common among furry artists who do very NSFW vore art.
Anal
A method of vore in which the predator devours the prey through the anus. Sometimes called “reverse vore” due to the prey being taken in through the exact opposite of where one normally devours something (orally). Not terribly common, but can be seen among furry and non-furry artists who do NSFW art with characters of any gender.
Unbirthing (Vaginal)
This method of vore involves the prey being taken into the predator by way of the predator’s own birth canal, often ending up in the womb, hence the name “unbirth.” Considered the female equivalent of cock vore, this one is also semi-common among both furry and non-furry NSFW vore fetish artists.
Online Presence
Searching “Vore” DeviantArt results in over 84,000 results [4] and over 64,000 images on Fur Affinity. In 2005 Two vore sites, strega.aryion.com and artists.aryion.com, merged and renamed Eka’s Portal under the domain name //aryion.com [5] and is now one of the largest vore communities on the internet. In 2011 the subreddit /r/vore was created [6].
