Cosplaying (“cosplay” being short for “costume play”) is the act of donning a costume in order to represent a character or idea. The most popular source for costumes is usually characters from anime, video games, or comic books.
Origin
The history of cosplay predates the creation of the internet. Though cosplay is believed to have started in Japan, it is believed to have grown popular through Western science fiction conventions[1].
Online Prescence
Though cosplay takes place off the internet, many cosplayers share their creations online through outlets such as Deviantart[3]. There is also a large variety of sites online dedicated to the sharing of one’s creations.
