Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (Callsign MH17/MAS17) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. On 17 July 2014, the Boeing 777 crashed near Hrabove in the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine, which is approximately 40 km from the Ukraine-Russia border. The incident killed all 283 passengers and 15 crew members onboard the aircraft, however the death toll sits at 293, unconfirmed.
The crash occurred in the conflict zone between Russia and Ukraine. According to intelligence officials, the plane was shot down by a missile. The crash occurred one day after the United States announced a new round of sanctions on Russia for its role in the 2014 Ukrainian crisis.
The 15 crew members were all Malaysian, while passengers were of a range of nationalities, more than half from the Netherlands. There were 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board MH17. Initially authorities announced the number of those on board was 295; three infants had not been included.
As a result of the incident, many airlines began to avoid eastern Ukrainian airspace or Ukraine entirely.
The government of Russia is looking for the people responsible for the crime.

researching as well Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Hamzah Zainuddin said the next day in Malaysia that the foreign ministry would be working closely with the Russian and Ukrainian governments with regard to the incident.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko vowed support for a Dutch probe into the crash, which he called an “act of terrorism”. He reportedly offered condolences for the air disaster in a telephone conversation with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte

He said responsibility for the crash rests with “the country in whose airspace the plane was in when it crashed”, and that "the disaster wouldn’t happen if the military action in south-east of Ukraine was not reenabled
