You Got Me Monologuing

$

About

You Got Me Monologuing is a line from Disney/Pixar’sThe Incredibles that later became a reference applied to fictional characters who carelessly talk at length instead of paying attention to their foe. Additionally, it has been taken out of context and used as a reaction image, particularly in the /r/IncrediblesMemes community.

Origin

The line comes from 2004’s The Incredibles.[1] Towards the end of the film, the film’s villain, Buddy “Syndrome” Pine, traps the hero, Mr. Incredible. He then begins explaining his motivations and plans, and as he does so, Mr. Incredible attempts to take the opportunity to attack Syndrome. Syndrome dodges and says, “You sly dog! You got me monologuing!” (shown below).

Spread

The quote saw occasional use paired with other characters in the following years. For example, a post on Funnyjunk[2] from June 20th, 2012, applied the phrase in an image macro of President Barack Obama (shown below, left). On June 2nd, 2014, Redditor TheMarcBrown applied the phrase to The Red Viper from Game of Thrones, referencing a dramatic scene from the show (shown below, right).

In February of 2018, a screenshot of the line from The Incredibles turned into a popular format on Reddit. On the 22nd, a post about School Shooters was posted to /r/MemeEconomy, gaining over 14,000 upvotes (shown below, left). As the format grew popular in similar image macros, Text Blackout variations began appearing, particularly on /r/IncrediblesMemes. For example, a Text Blackout post from February 26th on the subreddit gained over 330 upvotes (shown below, right).

About

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are a type of Cheetos puff snack that are spicier than normal Cheetos. They are frequently referenced in memes for their spicy taste and their creation story has inspired an in-production biopic for their creator.

History

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos were invented by Richard Montanez, a janitor at Frito-Lay, the company that produces Cheetos.[1] After realizing there were no products that catered to Latinos, Montanez had the idea to add homemade chili powder to undusted Cheetos. After doing so, he phoned the CEO of the company Roger Enrico and pitched his idea. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos hit the market in 1991 and Montanez was named Vice President of Frito-Lay. There are currently five different types of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and it is considered one of Frito-Lay’s most popular products.[4]

The product caused controversy in October of 2012 when schools in California, New Mexico, and Illinois banned them, citing how unhealthy they were.[2] Around the same time, CBS[3] reported that the snack was causing kids to go to the emergency room because they saw red in their stool. In January of 2018, a doughnut shop in Michigan sold over 600 “Flamin’ Hot Cheeto” doughnuts in two hours.[5]

Related Memes

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are generally referenced in memes for their popularity and spicy taste. While there is no specific style of meme for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, they appear in various templates. In December of 2017, Popsugar[6] ran a compilation of memes related to the product (examples shown below).

Creator Biopic

On February 22nd, 2018, Variety reported that Fox Searchlight pictures had bought the rights to a biopic about Richard Montanez’ life.[7]Twitter users joked about the news. For example, Twitter user @cherielovesyou mentioned actor Oscar Isaac was perfect for the part because of his famous photo in which he is seen eating Cheetos with chopsticks (shown below, left). User @MatthewACherry sarcastically congratulated Donald Trump, implying a movie about Cheetos would be about the president (shown below, right).

About

The Federal Bureau of Investigation more commonly known by it’s initials FBI is the security and intelligence service of the United States and it’s primary federal law enforcement agency. Online, it has acquired a reputation of spying on internet users with the intent of raiding the homes of said users and arresting them should they search for or look at anything online that is considered illegal.

Online History

The FBI has maintained an official online presence since at least October 22, 1996.[1] In November 2008 that presence expanded to include a Twitter account, the first tweet of which was sent out on the 25th of that month. Reputation

The FBI has been the butt of many jokes online, with various memes that poke fun at the perceived notion that they constantly spy on internet users and will raid their homes and arrest them if they post, look at or search for anything illegal. This likely stems from the their arrest of prominent members of hacking groups such as Anonymous, Lulzsec and UGNazi as well as their searches and seizures of websites such as controversial online marketplace Silk Road and child pornography website Playpen.

By either referring to the van or posting an image macro about it, a user is pointing out to another that the FBI may have noticed the illegal or questionable content of their post and are on their way to arrest them. About

Vero is a social networking application based around user-paid subscription as oppose to advertisements, making it an alternative to sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

History

Vero was founded in 2013 by Ayman Hariri, Motaz Nabulsi and Scott Birnbaum.

The app launched on July 28th, 2015,[1] promising an alternative to social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and declaring itself the “relationship-first” social network.

Ayman Hariri, CEO and Co-Founder of Vero, said, “In a world where you are what you post, Vero serves the needs and desires of people who want a safe, genuine reflection of their real-life relationships in an online setting. We have created a platform where users can express themselves in the most natural way possible.”

As of February 27th, 2018, Vero is the number one downloaded app in the app store.

Features

Unlike other social network sites, Vero calls itself the “relationship-first” network. Therefore, the site aims to operate in a similar way to offline interactions. Essentially, the app gives users features like other social networking applications but without some of the features people are critical of, such as advertisements, Instagram’s algorithm and Twitter’s harrassment issue.[2]

Users also allow an easy way to set up filters for their friends. The app gives them four designations: acquaintance, friend, close friend, and follower. This allows users to control how big of an audience can see their content.

Many of the basic options for sharing videos, pictures and text posts are available without the algorithm found on Instagram, so users see their news feed in chronological order.

You act like that’s a bad thing (the complete phrase) is a line from Disney/Pixar’sThe Incredibles that later became a kind of meme applied in situations that a determined person do something who is considered right to him but wrong for the others.

The line comes from 2004’s The Incredibles Movie. At the beggining of the film one of the protagonists Bob Parr – Mr. Incredible (who was one of the most famous heroes of his era and was not fighting crime anymore like he wanted to) – was monitoring the police scanner with Lucius Best – Frozone (who is a Parr family’s friend) – to record the good old times. When the police radio said a jewelry store was getting robbed, Bob and Lucius decided to stop the bandits in order to help the local polices and to feel heroes again.
The robber scene provided one of the most funny catchphrases from the movie where a cop misunderstood Frozone with a robber by the mask he was using to not reveal his identity to the cameras. Pointing a gun to Frozone, the scared cop want him to up her hands in order to get arrested. Frozone drinks a cup of water, up his hands and froze the cop yelling the catchphrase: “FREEZE!”*.
After this, with the sense of conquer, Bob returns to home, eat a piece of cake and then face his wife Helen who is incredible angry with him by coming home later after the “bowling”. She notices that Bob have some rocks in his clothes and
immediately find out what he was doing.
The following dialogue comes:

Helen: Tell me you haven’t been listening to the police scanner again
Bob: Look, I performed a public service. You act like that’s a bad thing.
Helen: It is a bad thing, Bob! Uprooting our family again so that you can relive the glory days is a very bad thing!
Bob: [Defensively] Reliving the glory days is better than pretending they never happened!
Helen: Yes! They happened, but this; our family, is what’s happening now, Bob! And you’re missing this! I can’t believe you don’t want to go to your own son’s graduation! […]
